Jessica Helfand, a graphic designer, is partner at Winterhouse and a founding editor of Design Observer. She is senior critic at Yale University School of Art and has written several books on graphic design and cultural criticism. She lives in New England with her husband and their two children.

Jessica Helfand is partner, with William Drenttel, in Winterhouse, a design studio in Northwest Connecticut. A founding editor of Design Observer, she has been a contributing editor and columnist for Print, ID and Eye magazines and has written for numerous national publications, including The Los Angeles Times Book Review, Aperture and The New Republic. She is the author of several books on design and visual theory including Screen: Essays on Graphic Design, New Media and Visual Culture (2001) and Reinventing the Wheel (2002). Appointed in 2006 to the US Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee, Helfand received both her BA and MFA from Yale University, where she is currently Senior Critic in the School of Art.
